On all the time, or just at idle? If on all the time, either the sensor is dead, the wiring is faulty, or your oil pump died (or the pump nut fell off). I would not run the car until you determine what the issue is!

this exact problem was in my 96 honda before I bought it, the seller claimed it was minor/next to nothing. The light use to go on and off after idle, two days later the engine started ticking and got to a point it sounded like pop corns. I decided to take the engine apart and found the piston 1 bearing the done.
but in your case it could be the oil pressure regulator

what oil weight you using? how many clicks on the motor? could be a weak oil pump, too much clearence in your bearings or a weak oil pressure switch. the switch is the chapest part, better hope its that

personally i use 10w30. if you want to thicken the oil a bit use lucas. that stuff works good. you can try replacing the switch since they are cheap. not sure of the location but you can probably do a search on here or online to find its location

check for the oil pressure switch behind the oil filter housing in the lower area of the unit. i could be wrong but it should be around there

like I posted in your other thread

From the E36 owners manual:

Although it would probably bother me too which I why I can understand that you want to make it go off completely.

Listen for knocking. If one of your crank bearings are gone there will be a loss of pressure.
As mentioned by BMW_M_POWER.

i think you might need an oil pressure switch for sure, i'ved had the same problem with my E30 and soon as i know my light came on for good and my pressure switch was leaking oil.

I think you're using the wrong oil. BMW approves only the use of ACEA A3, BMW LL-98 or LL-01 rated oils. A lot of 0w-30, 5w-30, and 10w-30 are not approved at those ratings (synthetic or not).

My suggestiong would be to use Castrol Syntec 5w50 during winter time and 20w50 in the summer. They are ACEA A3 rated oils.

It could be all of the above and then some.

These are the best steps to take, from cheapest to most expensive.
1) go with heavier grade oil.
2) Test the sensor, borow one from someones car that wworks, would be your best bet.
3) Your oil pump might be worn out.
4) You have a bad bearing, meaning to much of a gap between the bearing and crankshaft.

5) Take it to your BMW dealer.
