OK guys all done.. All i have to say is WOW.. I Just love the sound.. today i got around 5 compliments already .. Here is pics and video at the end.. camera does not justify the sound.. It sounds a lot better in person.. Love the setup and recommend this mod to every one with 540...
k so i might sound a bit stupid. but... those are both mufflers that you took out? and then from the cats and on thers nothing except the tips?
also if i do the same mod on my car and cut where you cut, if i just extend that to the back of the car and point it down that wouldnt work? i need a tip due to heat resistance or something like that?

The both cans on the first pic is silencer and muffler.. Before muffler and silencer there is V-shape resonator so cut the pipe after that. Pipe is 2.75" in diameter .. what we did is inserted 2.5" pipe inside existing pipe.. It worked perfect..
You have two choices for tips. Number one is the way i done .. or you can get a tip facing down.. it will hide any piping and will look a 100% stock. You don't need to use the tip like mine due to heat resistance.. It was just my preference.
k a couple questions:
this mod, does it affect performance/power at all?
also, inserting the 2.5" pipe inside the 2.75", doesnt that create any obsticle in flow/pressure whatsoever?
do i need a tip at all or will just an exhaust pipe do if i point it down like the stock system?
did u use the mounting spot from the existing muffler to brace the new pipe?
I was looking at the piping and from what I can see 2.75 pipe was used only after the Y resonator. Everything before seems to be a bit smaller in diameter.
This mod is mainly for esthetic purposes only but it will sound like it gained 50hp.
What Dmitri did was a very clean way of doing this.
Yes Davor absolutely correct before resonator the piping a lot smaller it looks like 2.5"..
So inserting 2.5" pipe in to 2.75" doesn't create any restriction for exhaust flow.. The muffler and silencer would create more restriction than this setup hands down..
Like i said in my previous post you don't need a tip, it your own preference. You can just use any pipe that facing down to the ground.. When you cut just dont leave pipe facing straight under the car it may melt something.. You can run that way for few days but better not..
Yes i used existing rubber hanger to support my pipe.. Picture #4 you can see what i done for the hanger.
Seems like im good to go then!
I wanna hear how it sounds in person before i start on this though. Xdx are u gonna show up at next fridays woodbridge meet?
Or someone else that did this job? Dado?
That sucks. I wanna hear one of these mods in person before i start. How loud is the noise inside the car? Big difference from stock? I dont always wanna hear the exhaust booming over the music.
I am jealous of this seat folding business, I wish I could do that.
In my car, it's almost as quiet as stock, unless you're on the gas hard, or have the windows down, or the radio totally off. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised.
Sound is awesome.. it same as stock when you cruising .. but on take off and under the load you have a nice rumble.. No DROWNING.. You will be happy no questions ask. Because of so much quality materials inside the cabin of e39, when the windows up .. you think it a stock muffler on the car..
