Too bad you couldn't just gut the muffler's internals to retain the OEM look.

It won't affect it at all. On the e46 the cats(what effects your emissions) are built into the headers.

Maybe its my age, but the video posted above sounds horrible.

When I was younger I liked louder exhausts, but as I age , nicer sounding quieter exhaust are what float my boat. IMO loud exhausts on otherwise stock cars is just posing, similar to big wings.

+1. And more importantly, a car that barely moves... If you're going to have a loud exhaust, the car better be able to back up all that bark with some bite.
