IMO...that's a $2,500 parts car at best.
The engine is one of the key features of that car along with the body panels which appear to be a tad bit neglected to say the least.

The first time I read is as $1,200, which seemed like a reasonable price to me. You could get a pretty nice E36 M3 for 12,000 can't you?

You can, but an E30 M3 is worth more than an E36 M3. This one however is not worth $12k, as mentioned $2500 max just because it's rarity.
