Guess you can call this my intro thread. I've been in the market for a daily driver that's reliable, cheap on gas, etc etc. However, I didn't want to go out and just buy a Honda Civic so I looked around for something a little more rewarding to drive. Came across a 1995 BMW 318is sedan in somewhat decent shape, picked it up for a steal (in my books). Aside from the BMW, I have 2 Mazda RX-7s (1986-1991). This would be my first European car, and I'm not exactly knowledgeable with the E36s or BMWs in general. Hoping to find some good tech info, and be an active member here.
A little background info. I was a mechanic up until late fall last year where finding a job was pretty difficult for me so I looked at other career options. Now I'm aspiring to become a Police Constable, currently studying/training at the Canadian Law Enforcement Training College in Toronto. I have some track experience but have been missing out for a while, hopefully I'll get my RX-7 back together for this year!
I'll start off my questions as follows:
I'm looking for an external trim piece that encases the front grill and where the headlights mount above, looks to be 1 piece. Also looking for front door panels for both sides. No urgent need, as I've no idea how much these things go for. However, I'd be interested in replacing mine.
Are there any issues with this generation of BMWs I should be aware of, maybe specific to year/model (1995 318 sedan)? How reliable are these cars generally?
My ABS and an icon of the steering wheel (assuming the airbag) lights are on, is this common? What DIY remedies should I look into?
Anyway, here are some pics
Some pics of the BMW
