What coolant to use?

my first post in the forum

i have a 97 540i and i wanted to flush the coolant in it. i was told that bmw coolant is quite expensive. my question is do i have to use bmw coolant or is there a specific brand that is cheaper that would be just as good?

thanks

Welcome to the forum, and yes the BMW blue stuff is worth it. The chemistry is perfect for
engine and rad combo. If you do go with the green stuff flush it well or if it has green stuff in it now flush it well before putting bimmer blue back in.

I just spoke to my dad and he said the regular price is around $35 so if you know anyone at the dealership you can get a pretty good discount (~$24). I don't know the coolant capacity of an M62 but I think its like 12 liters so you need 2 jugs of coolant and 2 jugs of distilled water.
