What you guys think?

Long story short, I've been thinking about selling the 540 for a while, but not too sure if my logic sounds any good.

Here's the quick run down on the car:
- 99 540IA
- 190k km on the odo
- compressions are good
- cup holders & OBC are good!
- OEM M-tech bumpers
- OEM Hella euro angel eyes
- ACS roof spoiler
- exhaust
- BBK
- coolant system overhaul last year
- all bearings replaced
- thrust arms done
- tranny is still good.

Bad:
- cracked rear bumper
- ABS module needed
- cracked windshield

I know the way the car sits right now is worthless, but I'm thinking of asking $15k for the following work to be done.

- Complete front end overhaul, timing chain, guides, OSV, Vanos, cam seals, valley pan, all gaskets etc, and try to clean up carbon build up, that's around $4k
- windshield replaced
- new OEM rear bumper fitted and painted
- front end painted to fix stone chips
- refinish the wheels & brakes
- new OEM ABS module

all that work is around $6-7k.

Do you think that's crazy talk if I ask 15k for all that work done? I really don't want to part out the car as its still pretty nice and everything works.

pic for reference.

I think you'd be on point with that price, considering what's done to the car. Are you going to remove any of the aftermarket parts for resale?

Most likely.

As I don't want to sit on stuff that I won't be using, I enjoyed the car and all, but I don't plan for another BMW.

I wouldn't spend $6-7K to help sell a car for 15K. Think of the time it will use up and the inconvenience to you. (assuming this is your only car)
I would sell it for 8K ish (15-7) and be done with it.

Its not my only car, I'd just rather get the car in tip top shape and sell it to someone who'd be happy then sell it as is now which the car will most likely end up in the gutter.

its the hopeless romantic in me.

Sam,

I'm pretty sure you know this is a mistake. I'd advise against it spending money to fix a car you're going to sell.

It's nice that you want to address the issues before selling your car. Than again, I doubt you will get 15k for 11 year old bmw with 200k on it.

I dont think anyone will pay over 10K for the car with the work done, altho it might be worth it...As we all know, the $$$ we spend on mods and repairs never adds up to the asking price.

DO NOT put money into the car if you're going to sell it. Very bad business decision. Sell it as is. Put your money towards something more useful, something that will give you a return on your money. You will not get the repair money back at resale. Break your emotional attachment. It's just a car. Walk away!

It's unanimous. I would call that level of work "over-improvement". I have a 98 540i and saw that even well maintained ones, or well modded ones with that age/number of km weren't selling where you want to be.

It does look nice though ...

If you want to get the most out of your sale, you'd most likely have to part it out. Unless someone comes along who really wants your car as it is.
