Hood popped today ! Haven't had time to mess with it much but the car is now on the hoist and underneath it looks great !! No rust ( anywhere ) and there is the following things noted : brakes are fine with about 20K left on the front rotors/pads . Small oil weep from upper front of motor above banjo fitting ( as seen from below) ( WTF is that? external oil pump?)
oil pan cover is missing but the rest of the plastic underneath is intact and in great shape. Front end is tight ( read: replaced at some point) and after running it up and down the driveway a couple of times ( long driveway ) the shifting is smooth and there is no hesitation when shifting . YAY !!!

I am pleased !

P.S. Put $20 of 92 in the tank and the range "jumped" from 40km to 164km !!
made me laugh out loud.

Update ! got my canadian cluster from Filip ( eurostyle) which was a great deal as usual ( thanks ! ) as well as the glovebox latch and I then took it to Marco & the boys at Autobahn in Stoney Creek for a going over ( good guys) . Should have definitve news by next week. S.O.B. developed a lifter noise but I'm hoping an oil flush and change will fix it.
Nonis' saturn knows the 740 is coming so it has decided to start pissing trans fluid out of the motor connection shaft ( an 8 hour job) so as soon as the 740 is done , well, so is the saturn ! hey $500, cold air, good stereo and two years is nothing to complain about.
noni ( my wife) names all of our cars when they arrive and when I brought her the saturn she sat in it and looked at me and announced that she was naming it Manny. I asked her why that particular name and she said the following. " easy! Manual f'in locks,manual f'in windows'
she ended up loving the car ( if only for the A/C ).

FINALLY got RIV sorted ! And no, BMW Canada did not profit for doing nothing ! car sat for 3 months because I'm an obstinate prick but I did prevail. All I need now is my DRLs activated and I'm off to inspection. I'm in Hamilton so I'd love for someone with a GT-1 programmer to contact me. Car is now mobile so I can bring it anywhere.

I know Bimmersport could hook you up for the DRL's, but they are in Mississauga.

We have 3 E38's that come out to the meets now, Dammerung, InspClave and myself and we are always welcoming more to come out with us. Nothing breaks necks like and E38, better yet more than one E38!
