Exclamation Ontarion Road Law. Must Read

Just passing on an email i received. I change lanes just for my own safety. I never knew that you could get fined and 3 points if you don't.

Hi Friends,

I just had an experience which I hope you will not have to go through yourselves.. .
I was driving on the 427 South at Burnamthorpe in broad daylight at 2 p.m., when I came upon two police cruisers who had pulled over a third vehicle. I slowed down to be cautious, and was surprised when the second cruiser pulled out and pulled me over. Approaching on the passenger
side, the officer asked if I knew why I had been pulled over. I honestly expressed that I had no idea.

He informed me that Ontario law now states that when approaching any emergency vehicle on the roadside with lights flashing, you must enter the left lane. He then proceeded to ticket me, taking three demerits and issuing a fine of , wait for it, . . $490! (Yes, I'm choking as I type that.) I realize I did not change lanes, but I do believe I was cautious.

My message is, be careful. He said that they are cracking down hard on this because of
injured officers. I did not realize this was the law. Neither did any of my recently-licensed children. Or evidently not the 47 drivers pulled over.

If you want to read the legislation click on the site

http://ogov.newswire.ca/ontario/GPOE...match=&lang=_e

Hefty fine if you don't change lanes!!!!!!! 3 demerit points on top of cash.
Go to the link above and check it out.

Please pass this on to your friends.

In the US, EVERYONE does this. Do you want to hit a cop on the side of the road? MOVE OVER.

I think its just common courtesy, if you are too dense in the head to understand that, a $400 ticket great treat for those..

I have personally seen a lot of retarded drivers, not even stop or move for ambulances/cops.. I can only imagine it being frustrating for our civil servants.

This law should apply to all vehicles on the side of the road, not just emergency.

Im aware of this law. It's reasonable. But sometimes it's a tough call of whether to move over left or just slow down thru, depending on traffic volume, flow and how far/close youwere at when you noticed what's happening ahead.

But with all due respect some of these guys can get inconsiderate at times. Like for example, they will pull a car over the shoulder and they will park their cruiser on the road parallel to nabbed car, their cruiser occuping one rightmost lane lol. If you were behind the cruiser, are we to move 2 left lanes over? I know the answer is NO. But in this case, technically the officer and I are both in the wrong.

Why?

I bet you cops have personally caused me MUCH more hardship than they have you, and not only do i not want them dead, i respect (most) of them for the hard work they do.

^ i think from what i remember this law came into effect sometime last summer. i believe it was for emergency vehicles only, but probably should be all vehicles pulled over on the highway. but i also thought there was a provision that you either go into the left lane or slow down beyond certain speed...maybe <60km/h if you remain in the right lane.

anyway, its the responsibility of the driver to be up to date with current laws, i'm sure a year from now there will be a similar e-mail circulating with "i didn't know i couldn't use a cell phone, read a book and each my lunch while driving and i got a ticket...wtf!?!"

ahaha, it doesn't work. Where one dies and goes away, another springs up in his place. They're like immigrants, that way.

I have been switching to the left lane from day one. However I did not know it was the law here in Ontario. I believe the Police Officer should gave him a warning since it is his first offence for this type of violation. The cop is just being a dick.

If they are worried about getting hurt they should:

1) Don't pull anyone over to issue a ticket.
2) If you have to pull some one over guide them to the nearest exit or gas station.

I would go to court and fight it, they might reduce the charge.
