So quick question for you guys.. i have 328i 5pd that wont turn on, heres what happend leading up to this unfortunat event:

1) one of my remote buttons where giving me problems (wouldnt lock had to try many times to get it to work)
- So when i get home i open the back of my key and take out the whole remote unit and re arrange the button pad, so it looks like its gonna work fine when i notice a small black piece that fell off ? anyways i didnt give it much importance put the key back together and left that piece out.

NOW my car wont turn over, i can unlock and lock doors no problem. when i put the key in all the lights on dash turn on properly. I've tried starting it with a boost and nothing.

Question: could that peice that came off the remote portion of the key effect the communication with the EWS? becuase nothing was changed to the actually metal key part?

- Any info would be appreciated.

I also already ordered a new key from BMW mississauga.. will this fix my problem?

That little black thing is the chip that sends the signal to your computer and tells it to start (EWS)

Put that black thing back in and it will start.

Perfect thats what i was hoping to hear. unfortunatly i cant find that little black chip so ill have to wait for the new key.. that should work just fine right?

Yes, as long as you ordered it from the dealer and not one of those Blanks sold on ebay, etc.

The new key will come programed for your car.

Yea i ordered it through service desk at BMW Mississauga they requierd only the ownership and license.. 5-10 day wait

Man thank god your on this fourm !! thats exactly what feel off... so i feel confident that the new key being orderd should work. i was just worried that it might mean a new EWS module or starter ...

No prob, you dont have anything to worry about, The Dealer can program the new key to work with your car's DME, EWS, etc. They have all the information they need stored, so they just have to make the key and program it. (Probably comes from Germany or some factory somewhere)

That is why it takes 5-10 days.

How much are they charging nowadays for new keys, 400, 600 bucks?

Nah its actually 209+Tax. + yea man you live and you learn.. Now I know what component of the key connects with the EWS.

isnt it true they only make 10 copies at the factory and thats it?
