54k?? What is ford smoking... I'm sure a 2 year old SHO will sell for low 20's in 2012.. Ford's can't hold their value worth a damn.

Americans were like that eversince. Do you recall the early 1990s Buick Road masters, than in 2001 Olds Aurrora. All premium 50k cars that sell for much less 2-3 years down the road. 5 years production and they all vanish.

btw, it IS a head turner.
And the acuras, audis, bmw, mb, that someone listed as "could have gotten", realize they are all compact sedans. You'd be hard pressed to find a large size car like the Taurus in those brands fully optioned without going over 60K

I'd probably never buy one, but I like it. I've seen a few on the road and they definitely have presence. In fact, they are HUGE. The thing that made me really notice was when I saw one parked next to an F150 - the top of the trunk was nearly as high as the top of the box!
It's good to see NA companies trying to bring it on though. They seem to finally have realized that they need to make more cars that are fun to drive to compete. Even Buick is moving away from its old-man-car image. Seen the new Regal? Turbo, AWD, 6 speed manual!

^^^that Regal GS looks sooooo badass.
As for the SHO, that's a great overall family cruiser with some serious power. If your Dad is happy with it then that's all that matters. Good for him. Let him enjoy his new whip.

Impressive...
+1 for FORD not taking a bail out... the only American car company I've ever had respect for.

Someone else said it earlier in this thread but Ford is the only NA company I've ever had respect for. They are by no means perfect, but no bailout money, they are being managed properly. In terms of quality Ford had just as shady a past as the other to N.A. companies, but look now at JD Power and Ass. Ford has moved up that list significantly, and owning a Ford with higher mileage isn't as much of a penalty anymore. My parents have an 01 Focus Wagon with 230 000km and no real problems to talk about.
In regards to the new sho, I have mixed feelings. I was a HUGE fan of the '88-'95 sho with the 3 litre Yamaha engined 5 speed manuals. They ran min 14's in the quarter 20 years ago and actually handled with the best front drivers of the day, Probe Gt, Corrado, Integra, etc. yet was a mid sized sedan that could carry 5 in complete comfort. This newer one is a full sized luxury cruiser, so Ford shifted gears with this car. I'd have preferred them using this engine with a manual on a rwd platform, say the old Lincoln LS platform which was AWESOME, rivaled the e39 5 series in the handling department.
My problem is not that it is over priced, just that for the same money you could step into a two year old M5. Or a 3 year old 750 if you want a full size performance luxury cruiser, and those cars are superior. I've bought a few brand new cars over the years, and I said to my wife after the last one, never again, unless we become lottery winners. Too much depreciation after the first two years.
I had a friend recently buy a brand new mazda 3 base model, 2 litre 5 speed no options. Out the door he spent $18g's. I said are you on crack? He could have stepped into an e90 for that money or an e46 m3 or so many other better cars. I don't get it. A new car is only new for the next few months, and then the novelty has worn off and you're now driving a very expensive used car! Just my two cents.
