E36 Alpina B3

Here are a few pics of my 94 Alpina B3. It only has 60,000 original Kms on it and is absolutely rust free. Imported about 3 years ago. I picked it up in Calgary, where it was laid up with a malfunctioning JATCO auto tranny. No JATCO parts available in NA, so it sat. For some reason, most Alpinas were automatics. I swapped the auto for a ZF 5spd and 3.15 LSD.

So clean! I am hating on you haha. A few of these and e30 Alpinas popping up at the importer that sold me my Skyline. Japan went nuts on Alpina Hartge and ACS cars in late 80s early 90s when their economy was booming and they are LHD cars too.

This was a Japanese assembled Alpina, so it has a euro-tuned 2.5L, not the 250hp Bavarian Alpina engine. Still LHD however. Being subjected to Japan's acid rain had taken a toll on the exterior. I had to replace all the rubber moldings and gaskets around the windows, doors, door handles, etc. They were all dryed and crumbled to the touch. I was able to save the original paint by having it professionally polished and found a vendor in The Netherlands that shipped me a genuine Alpina striping kit to replace the badly faded original pinstripes. The 17" Alpina wheels were powdercoated last winter. All the glue had let go on the interior door panels and headliner, so most of the interior was replaced from my donor 328is.

From a purist's POV, it's not a genuine Alpina, but a very good replica. Assembled with all genuine Alpina parts by a Japanese company, starting with a new 325i, much like the real Alpina factory in Bavaria. The only thing missing is the Alpina-tuned engine which, to the naked eye, would appear as a stock 2.5L anyway. It's still unique and I like it!

As far as Barrett Jackson is concerned, no, it's a replica. But I'm not taking it to Barrett Jackson, it was imported as an Alpina, and it's registered as an Alpina, so I'm called it an Alpina.
