HID Question

Hey guys,

Quick question regarding my right side headlight and the fact the HID went out on me. Every time I turn the lights on it flickers a little bit, but fails to turn on. Should I go ahead and order the bulb or is possible that something else is up that has nothing to do with the HID???

If this is a common thing with e46s (I have an '02 325ci) then sorry for the dumb question, but it's my first one.

Rob

The plastic housing are kinda small for fitting projectors in if that's what you're going to do. You cant change the plastic cover to a glass cover because the glass ones are bigger. Also for the OP's problem plug the bulb into the other ballast to see if it is the bulb or the ballast that is defective. HID bulbs very rarely go so I'm guessing that the ballast is blown.

if it flickers most likely its not the bulb, it would either be the ballast or the ignitor..

Flickering can be the bulb, I've had a bulb go out like that before.

Easiest thing to do is swap the bulbs, that will tell you if it's bulb or ballast.

Hey bro,

Sounds like the typical early e46 dead ignitor problem. Swap the bulbs left to right, if the problem stays on the same side you need a ballast.

I'm having a similar problem. Ivan, do you have anything that can plug-in to my OEM setup as straight plug and play?

Yep, there's a PnP option but you lose bi-xenon. There is a full aftermarket replacement that is plug and play and keeps bi-xenon functionality, however its not cost effective vs. replacing the ignitor from BMW. (ignitor is 260$ afaik)

I don't have bi-xenon functionality to begin with so I should be fine with your PnP option. Could you PM me the cost/details?
