What to look for when buying an E46 M3???



okay since i sold my e36 m3, i have missed the bmw styling and power. In a few months i will be returning to the bmw world and buying an e46 m3. I am just curious of what to look for when purchasing these cars. I am looking to buy the leguna seca blue with matching interior and it also has to be 6 speed. what are the main problems with the car?

or maybe i should just forget the e46 and buy another e36 m3???

That's kinda out there... It will be extremely hard to find a Leguna Seca with the matching interior! You might have to settle for something similar, prob with a plain black interior.

I'd say go for a e46, since you already onwed a e36..

6spd only, check Vanos, take it to bmw, get it fully inspected, CarFax, etc...

Good luck, and check out cars in the states, you can find some pretty good deals there.

i am also leaning towards an E46 M3 in the spring. a co worker has a 328ci and has a boat load of problems.. not to mention his was in inaugural year of the body change.

If the carfax is clean, and the body/condition..

Just take it to the BMW store, and pay the $200 bucks man...

simple as that.. dont skimp on a $200 inspection that can lead to thousands in repairs.. trust me!!

price maybe low now, but they sure are not fun when it come to maintenance or repair

lots of people are buying them since the prices are low, but the maintenance is kinda steep. at least $100 for an oil change and thats doing it your self.

other wise, make sure the rear trailing arm bushings have been replaced about every 60,000km or get them changed asap.

should ride kinda stiff on stock suspension. shifting clunks are normal but rear end clunks over bumps might mean the rear subframe might be damaged.

its funny, cause here in AB you can buy a used car, put it on the road all without getting it cert. i think it has to be <5 years old though.
