My 1984 318i Build thread (On JDMrides.ca)
Hey, I don't think anyone knows me on here so I thought I'd post my build thread from JDMrides.ca (Owned a honda before the bmw and posted heavily on that site so I thought I'd post it there)
I'll hopefully get around to making a build thread on maxbimmer.com but if not....

Any reason why you chose to use this chassis? Looks pretty rusty man.
And BTW, in your first post on that Honda forum... just to clarify, Vanos is NOTHING at all like Vtec.

I chose this chassis because it cost me 60 bucks
I have a welder, funds, time, energy and skills to get this car at it's prime so that's what I'm going to do.
Just to clarify, I didn't say it was like vtec. I said the same idea. But you are right, I haven't actually driven a vanos equipped car. How about you tell me a little bit about it?

Fair enough
A hastily quick explaination:
Vanos changes cam timing, so say it retards the timing when idling or advances (set back to normal) when under load. On your M50, only the intake cam changes. On the newer bimmers, both intake and exhaust can change, influencing more than powerband, like emissions for example, etc etc.
I am not as familiar with Vtec, but from what I understand it changes the valve lift by operating on another set of cam lobes.

It's not just a car, it's a resume. Documenting the restoration will help me with my career and hopefully help me get positions I wouldn't have got without the experience and proof of building a car from the ground up.
I'm almost done the Automotive technicain course at Cambrian College in Sudbury, I've worked at multiple garages and have swapped an engine into my previous car along with all other work that was done to it.
The course is fairly intense, 10% off your final grade for missing 1 day 5% off for being late. We've learnt alot, alot more then someone who just takes their apprenticeship right after highschool and becomes a single tracked mechanic who can only work on the type of cars their garage works on.
You gotta take cars by the ****ing balls and not be scared of them.
You also have to remember that I live in Sudbury, the amount of e30's or bmw's at that are very low. It's not just going online and picking one of them.
Sheet metal is CHEAP!

Oh shit yeah man!
Just give me a PM whenever I'll give you my cell number and you can come take a look! I also have a bunch of really good lakes to fish if you're interested in catching 30+ pike in one day.
