Shit, that sucks.... I'd be pissed!!

least the truck driver seems like he was cool about it.

If I were you I'd spring for a 325is, or take the money and run.

cover it up with some POR15 so it doesnt rust, get an i head for cheap and spend the $2000 on a turbo set up. ultimate ratrod sleeper.

(thats assuming it still drives in straight lines)

or do an m30 swap and die from the torque in the winter.....

buy the car

first get as many receipts for the car as possible submit them after the ins. co. gives you an offer then after their second offer say can't justify that much to settle this call me back tomorrow push for $4000 but settle for $3000or $2800 but you keep the car part it out after you take what you want there is a 1989 325is black on black 5spd on kijiji toronto right now wants $3000 make a deal if it is an IS model should have recaros bbs rims rear spoiler and 1989 i think is the last year for pop out rear windows

Yeah but I looked on google maps and street view. Looks like that car is parked in some area where they have auto colission next door. Hmm I would take a better look. Looks to be some shady automall as well.

buy the car

well i would take a look have it checked by a mechanic of your choice even can tire just somebody other than the seller, get the used vehicle info pkg how many owners and time each one owned try and take names addresses call them ask what the car was like. i'm thinking offer 2000 to 2200 could be an upgrade with no cost to you.

cocacola_bob: thnx for the advise. my plan was gonna be just like yours. see what the ins corp tenders as their 1st offer, throw back some ads from craigslist, usedvancouver/usedvictoria, and wait for their counteroffer... but i seriously doubt if theyde give me anything close to the 4000 you mentioned. ill hear back sometime this week. hope youre right. if you are... then i can proceed with your 2nd part and strip and upgrade! ...to an es right?

Why are you so set on getting an es?

Washington and Oregon are just below you, so you should be able to get something nice from below the border.

if it makes you happy

I think you should do whats going to make you happy if an ES is what you want go for it i have a 1990 insured with silver wheels it is stock except for the 15inch momos which if given the right offer will be replaced with the stock 14inch bbs it has been appraised for insurance purposes at $4500 if an appraiser of your choice can see that car for what it was a good example in well kept shape why wouldn't it be worth 4-5k an independant auto appraiser could be worth the 80-100 bucks for a piece of paper that reinforces your claim to higher value again never settle unless your comfortable or beaten, good luck in your quest and i'm intrested in knowing what you pick up send me a message with a picture.

I'm with cocacola_bob on this one. I think you should try to get as much money as possible from the insurance. A repair quote from a body shop would probably also help your case, in some shops the guys are nice enough to give you a "boosted" quote. Part out your car and don't rush into buying another ride right away. I'd probably even save some extra cash on top of that and upgrade into either a 325 or 328 E36 cabrio or coupe. Don't think you'd regret unless you're really passionate about E30s. Personally the only E30 I'd be happy with would be an M3, but that is, if I had the cash for one

ACS_DAN's got a good point too, there are some nice deals on US cars out there, just seach eBay for an idea
