What is this part for?

I have this part on my 05 325Xi and in cold starts it make alot of noise for about a min or 2. What is it for and what is it called.

Emission control air pump. Runs for a short period of time to clean up exhaust fumes until the cats can do their job. I didnt pay much attention to mine on start up but dont remember it making too much noise.

secondary ari pump. It's used to meet emissions requirements during the initial warm-up period of the car... Makes some noise while operating... Shouldn't be too loud though....

Yes, secondary air pump....Many of them get noizy after some time, it will stop working soon...

It's the 'dookicky' it's connected to the 'snarfflepump'. it keeps your engine clean by emitting a fine mist every 15 seconds. Looks like it might be working overtime since your engine is so damn clean.

You never take that thing off road?

The picture above is not my car, its a pic i found online. But mine almost as clean as the pic above and off roading only in the winter. 4 wheel drive
