Way to keep up on that maintenance......

And yes, apparently the guy is very sheepish about what he did......or in this case, didn't do.

Wow, Just goes to show service records are a must when buying a used car. I'd hate to be the poor sucker that ends up with that POS.

Well, according to the guy that helped him do the work, it runs like a dream. It's a pretty good case maker for how robust those I6s can be.

Even if he says it runs well, there is no possible way that oil in that condition would be doing a good job of lubricating. So it might run well now, but with the added wear, it's probably worn like an engine with 400,000k or more. Worn rings, lifters, cams, bearings, guides etc etc. The guy didn't even change the filter in that time period, which also means it was probably clogged to all hell, and was probably starving the engine of oil.

just get a new engine if ever it gets that bad.... why take the time to rebuild it? of course you could just not let it get that bad in the first place!

Point taken, but I still say it says a lot about these engines. With that oil change interval (and I use that term loosely) the sound from the engine shouldn't have been a smooth BMW-like rip, but a loud "I wash my tools in the washing machine"-like clanking.

reading the first post was good enough for me....don't have the time for 9 pages of posts, but damn, waiting that long for an oil change. Proves the point that more frequent changes are required....10,000 to 12,000km's for synthetic stuff....
