Then why does everyone dyno e36's in 4th? Wouldn't it make more sense to do it in 5th?

i think 5th exceeds the speed at which most dynos become unsafe. i was reading about this a few weeks ago on bf.c

Is there any performance reason for a 6th gear? IIRC the 5th gear on ZF e36 transmissions is already overdriven, and the rest of the ratios are the same, correct?

This would probably be a great mod with a shorter geared diff, like a 3.64 or something.
There is not a noticeable difference through the first 5 gears between the two gearboxes. The overdriven 6th gear allows you to run a high ratio diff without sacrificing top speed or fuel economy on the highway. The getrag is also a much stronger tranny than the ZF and shift much nicer. The shifting is almost identical to that in an E39 M5.

false, the 6 speed is not sealed and takes ATF

I have a reliable supply on a per order basis, I am not regularly bringing them in for sale. If you have plans for one, plan on one month from the date your deposit is left (30%)

This one came with an engine that was ordered by a customer

i always thought it was sealed for some reason.. even more of a reason to get one i guess. do you come across these euro parts once in a blue moon or do you have regular access to them? if i can gather some more coin this winter i would like to get a 6 speed since my input shaft bearing is on its way out anyways.

edit: ^ answered my question.

That, plus governors with stock software.
