cost of thrust arm bushings?

im getting the 90kmh-100kmh shimmy or wheel vibration.
my mechanic just replaced my ball joints and i got an alignment done as well.

i read here that the thrust arm bushings usually is the culprit...anyone know how much to replace? including labour?

If the vibration comes during braking then it could be the bushings but if it's just while driving then I'd look to your wheels/tires.

If they are really bad you will get the shimmy during braking and drivng (80-100km/h)

Do you want to replace the whole arm or just the bushings?

If youare getting the whole thrust arm then i would recomment that you get Lemfoerder, as they are the OE manufacturer.

i just got new winters so im sure they balanced them correctly????
i would prolly do both thrust arms and bushings...

and yes it happens both accelerating and braking....
appreciated!

They are solid rubber and not fluid filled.

I just bought my Control Arm Bushings from Turner Motorsport. You can check control arm bushings by pushing the front of the front wheel backwards while watching the bushing. The play will be considerable.

The is accurate for the E30/E36/E46.... BUT the E39 is a little different.

When the bushing fails on the E30/E36/E46 the rubber cracks/splits and the play can easily been seen.

On the E39 the fluid filled bushing is cracked and the fluid leaks out. The rubber is still "ok" with no visible cracks. They way to check the bushing on the E39 is to look for signs of a brownish fluid leak by the bushings.

I'm not sure if the 530's thrust arms and bushings are the same as the 540's and M5's but if they are, you can look into replacing the stock ones with bushings from an X5. It's a popular "mod" on M5's. They cost about $70 for the pair and another $100 for installation labor. The X5 bushings are much stiffer than the stock E39's which in turn gives better durability and steering feedback.

530 Thrust ams and bushings are different from 540, they are even mounted differently.

Rule of thumb; if you replace your control arms/ball joints do the bushing while your in there. Since the arms come off the bushing are a no brainer and doesn't cost much more to do. Most cases when the ball joints go the control arm bushing are not far behind. Or the bushing are shot but ball joints are still in tact. Bushings usually go before ball joints.

Mine is doing the same thing, I had th ejob priced at BMW Mississauga for complete thrust arm and ball joint replacement and they came back with $1072 installed or something close to that. Im thinking im just gonna let them do it so I can get some kind of warantee on the work

wow I paid total $360 for oem control arms installation included at Bimmersport. $200 for parts I got on eBay new. And $160 labour.

Anyone done Powerflex? I have some sitting in a box waiting for a little warmer weather - I'd like to know how difficult the install was.

It took several hours to do and not as easy IMO as peeps say in their posts. If the bushings still have any oil in them it gets pretty nasty if you destroy the center of the bushings to be able to hack saw the sleave.
