If you just want the halos there are a ton of kits starting to come onto the market. However, if you want the look of the whole e39 light, you are gonna have to do a lot of bodywork with fitting the lights, hood, etc.

Isnt the E39 hood substanually wider than an E36? That would cause major problems.

Just do a Angel Eye kit.
The whole headlight conversion would be way to expensive!

Yeah the angel eyes are available all over the place now, well demon eyes to be exact. One of many places is UUC.

well..
I think you will be better off converting your US headlamps into the euro spec headlamps, then you can install the angel eyes into the european ellipsods. It's a nice mod!
You can get IN PRO's kit from Bava Auto which is an ellipsod with the built in angel rings.
Or you could check out Jim P's kit at UUC. However, I suggest you to wait till the DDE version comes out because it's easier to install and brighter.

i totally agree with 328DTM.. it will be a waste of time and money to put those big E39 headlights into E36.. ellipsoid with angel eye kit would be the way to go..

Here's an interesting link on an angel eyes conversion for those who haven't seen it yet:
http://www.apexcone.com/Lighting/Ang...AngelEyes.html
He has his steps from converting to Euros, to HID and finally to Angel Eyes. The rest of his site is really cool too, give it a gander!
