Should work. I know the oil pans are a bit different(E53's into E39's and vise versa), which is no big deal, but what year's are you talking about?

I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work. An M54 is an M54. Like i said, there's gonna be minor differences. Overall the motor is the same. Tranny is another story, as well as computer management i beleive. Nothing crazy.
