Why did you clean the under hood of a winter beater so well?

It's just going to get all filthy again

Seriously all you used is a paintbrush, wd-40, and some towels? I guess everything has a light film of oily residue on it now. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Before and after is crazy. How much stuff did you have to pull apart to get into all the nooks and crannies?

You forgot to mention all the new fancy bolts and hardware you used, oh and a can of spray paint or two for all those brackets and heat shields. Giving everyone a false sense of hope with that WD-40 can

so anyways rob hows about you get your ass to my garage and get started on the vert Please and thank you!

Rob could u do like a break down of how you cleaned ur engine bay, it sounds stupid but I like seeing how others work and how differently they do things. I doubt you just wd-40'd it. Power washer maybe first? any detergent? howd you remove the rust proofing?

Thanks

Jay

Spoony, no powerwashing...the rustproofing was removed with WD40, it breaks it down...and that's 20 year old rustproofing on there....

There's not much to discuss regarding the process.
First I removed some of the components and parts out of the way,
air box, fuse box, wiper motor, map sensors, resistor box, coolant overflow tank etc etc..
Then as you spray the WD-40 on, let it sit for about 10-20 seconds, while you brush and agitate the dirt, then when it becomes all liquid, you can wipe it off with microfiber towels. The brush gets into all the knook and crannies...
You have to spray alot of WD-40 for it to work on heavy buildup.
It's a very messy job and it takes time..
Once all dirt is gone, you can at the very end wipe the entire engine bay and hood with Quick detailer spray, by Meguiars.

craz azn, you are right, I did replace a few bolts, powdercoated the valve cover, installed new engine mount, painted a few brackets, and installed new plug wires and heat shield.. most stuff I got used for free and I get close to wholesale price on parts from Honda.

Amazing work on that detail. That car should be preserved in that condition for the next decade!

You just got name dropped by Bill Gardner on the show, even showed pics of the car! He said he threatened the life of the guy who owned it before you (Alfonso) if he drove it in the winter. Sounds like this car was amazingly cared for.
