e30 as winter beater... good idea??

Hey guys i found a 88 325 for $700.

I was gonna purchase this as a winter beater.
Are these cares reliable in the winter.
also is the back end light enough to be an issue.. i'm gonna have winter tires all around.

just looking to get some feedback.

Thanks

While they are extremely fun to drive in the snow. I wouldn't say they are a great winter car. You have to be careful driving in wet or snowy conditions. My first e30 I drove in the winter and that didn't end well. e30's are a summer only kinda car ...for me anyway. Unless you got a IX then its a different ball game.

I do agree with the "be careful" but although they aren't ideal they are a fine winter car. I drove an 88 325i for 3 winters, 2 of them commuting from St Catharines to Burlington for work with a good set of all seasons and not even anything in the trunk. Rear could be loose around corners in the city but never had an issue and it was fun as hell.

With a good set of winter tires, they are good in the snow and i wouldn't hesitate to drive one. I drove an e30 every winter since 2002. Won't be driving one this winter thou.

buy a 325ix. I have yet to have anyone prove to me that there is a better winter beater than that.

Beater means under 3000$.

E30s are good winter cars ONCE equipped with good snow tires. My 318is With lowering springs still got me around anywhere and everywhere no problem. You have to be careful however since these are e30s and are a LOT less unforgiving to user error/mistakes.

I haven't driven an e30 in winter since the winter of 2007, But i hope to be this upcoming winter

I have a set of bottlecaps with almost new micheline x-ice if you want. 450$.

also, e30s are great in winter with snow tires! as long as you don't drive like an idiot.

good winter tires, sensible driving, and a sand bag in the trunk and you're good for any winter conditions. an LSD makes it much more fun and easier to drive in the snow.

well i went to go check it out..
ughhh
the guy boosted it and took it around the block before i got there..
he said when he parked it after his little spin he gave it a little rev,
and something blew up and coolant is all over the street infront of his
house.
He said hes gonna take it to his mechanic to get it fix and give me a call
after its fixed to give it a test drive

The best winter tires I've had on mine were Pirelle Winter Ice; e30's no matter which model you have can be driven in the snow and you won't get stuck unless you just don't know how to drive. 2door, 4 door, IX doesn't matter. I had crappy tires and got stuck almost everywhere. Pirelle's are affordable in comparison to Michelin. Best buy for a quality tire. Infact, e30's are better then e36 or e46 for winter and e30's don't have traction control either. tires are everything in the winter for this model.
