How fast can you go at Ontario tracks?
[flame suit]
I've never raced at any tracks in Ontario, although I've been to Cayuga once when I was much much younger.
My question is, what kind of speeds can you reach at the local circuit tracks around here, in a 330ci or an m3 for example? How long can you maintain these speeds? How long are the lap times? What tracks are known for what?

The fastest track in Ontario is by far the Mosport Grand Prix track. Also, known as the third fastest track in the world. With the cars you mention, you should be able to hit 220kph up the back straight. It would be more but it's up hill the whole way. The real test to the track is how much speed you carry through the turns. Turn 5 is the slowest turn on the track and you should be able to maintain 70kph through it. But, some of the faster turns like turn 8, you'd be carrying around 160kph or so depending on tires used. hopefullly this helps.

I get up to almost 170 km/h in my 328 at either Cayuga or Shannonville on the straights.
Cayuga is too small of a track though. May too hard on the brakes and tires. Shannonville is a way faster track. Depending on the layout. I only go on the Full Track.
Mosport DDT isn't quite as fast, but fun because of a few elevation changes.
and the Mosport Grand Prix....never been on it. Hopefully next year.

I hit 220 k/hr on the back straight at Mosport.
Paul Christians used to hit 247 in his rocket car when he turned on the bubble machine. Note, he required solid suspension bushings to accomplish that.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I didn't think people would respond.
Are there any Max Bimmer track days coming up this year? I'd like to get into this stuff at the latest next summer, but I'm not too sure where to begin...

Maxbimmer doesn't have track days.
But keep your eyes peeled in the Track Junkies section for days organized by other people.
Also check out Kplayground.ca
Whatever you do, stay away from Touge.
Cayuga has $60 track days every Wednesday from 5-8.

Tracks aren't entirely all about Speed, a lot focuses on Driver Skill. Come to the Trillium BMW Autocross this weekend in Concorde and check it out. Free to come and watch. Link for details is at the top of this forum in Track Junkies.

I got a ride alone in a brand new 135i at the trillium Mosport driver training school. I glanced at the speedo on the back straight and it was at 230ish and still climbing. Then a Nissan GTR (the red one, owned by Devons instructor) blew by us like we were stand still. Man that was a fun ride, but very uneventful cause the car just kinda went about its business...

So basically on the Mosport back straight I'd be sitting at my rev limiter in 5th for a bit. Nice.

I have no clue what speeds im doing at the end of the back straight at Mosport GP. My speedo tops out at 180k's but the car keeps pulling hard. I would guess around 210ish before I get on the stoppers.
