e39 - aftermarket stereo question

long story short, my stock radio/cd player got Fd up.
im going to replace the system with an aftermarket single din h/u.

my sister lives in virginia and she will be bringing me up the following parts next week:

VWA3B
19.95
02 BMW 5-S/VW ANT ADPTR
[more]

BW2330B
19.95
97+ BMW 5 SERIES RADIO INSTALLATION KIT
[more]

VW03B
14.95
02-UP VW HARNESS
[more]

Now is that all i need to install my new H/U and have sound again?
I have 02 530i no DSP

note: are those prices cheap or can i get them cheaper? if so where in the GTA?

thanks.

IF you install an aftermarket stereo will you still be able to have access to the OBC? Eg. will you be able to check gas mileage, etc.

^ I don't believe so. I'd rather have the OBC than an aftermarket unit.

I'd just pick up a new head unit off a parts car.

Yea, but you have to remove the OBC display unit to install that radio installation kit you showed. I'm gathering the guts of the OBC are in the display unit.

How do you do the setup on the obc and reset the numbers if you don't have the mid unit?

I personally like stock much better, but whatever suits your fancy.

I gather your dash OBC display doesn't provid you with data because you need the centre console OBC display to reset data.

of course stock looks better, but my MID got fd up due to water damage. so i decided to change...dont really need the obc since i havnt reset the data since ive bought the car >5 yrs now...

i know the biggest complaint is the ugliness of aftermarket, personally its fine with me.
for the $200 ive spent its not bad...and i have my music back...
if i want to go back later to stock, i can always purchase a used MID on ebay for about $300 shipped...

Whatever makes you happy. I personally would have spent the extra 100 bucks and got a used MID. There are guys on this site parting out 5ers, so you might have found a matching part number for less. Regardless, you're happy. Enjoy.

Does the cover go down?... I mean that "wood" strip that was used to cover your Bass/treble controls and stuff.. or the main button on the deck doesn't let it?...
