Apparently the Z3 rack is the one you want. Not sure from which model though

I found this
http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=66247

I think i'm only going to go stock e36 (96+ M3 are the same as the regular e36, only 95 is 3.0 and z3 might be too hard to find)

I read contradicting comments on the z3 though, some say that it will have a wider turning radius than stock, others say it will be tighter than the others?

1:You have puddles in your driveway, and you have to fill up on ATF fluid all the time.
2: You hear that signature power steering wined.
3: You have no power steering

Myself, I'm at 1, and 2 usually follows after fluid gets low. I just bought the E30, and was told the steering would 99% have to be replaced so I bought the car knowing it had to be replaced even though the seller did not mention anything about it. Clearly tried to hide the fact that he had to fill the fluid up now quite frequently himself as I can see (i have had the car 4 weeks now and it's starting to make the winding noise when cranking the wheel).

It might not be your rack(unless you're pinpointed the leak already).
Wipe everything down as best you can, then fill it up. Drive around a bit and see where its leaking from. It could be leaking from the base of the res, at the pump, or at the lines to the rack. If its coming out at either end of the rack, leaking through the ends of the boot, then it might be seals.
If you have tight steering, don't neglect the swivel joint in the column, it often gets clogged with dirt which leads to wear > firm steering and 'slop' in the wheel. Clean and grease this joint once in a while.

Some guys on R3V confirmed that while the z3 rack is less turns overall lock to lock, at one turn it is still 50mm of travel, same as the E36 rack. The effective turning angle is the same until you hit lock, where the E36 turns a little farther.
