the weirdest thing happen to my car today...

on hwy 7/427, i decided to give her off the red light, and just before im ready to shift into 2nd....it quits out!

*put put put*....i couldnt even accelerate past 40 kmh.....which was the fastest i was going for the rest of the way home.

im like OMG i juts ****ing blew the motor....but the temp stayed low, no coolant in the oil, etc. so what is the issue???

im wondering...like 10 minutes before it happneed, i had filled up with Esso gas (first time i have EVER put esso in my car).

could it be the esso gas? or is it just coincidence.

i disconnected the fuel line, and the fuel shot out all over the place so the pump is alright.

i gotta check the distributer i suppose, but the car is now starting up fine like it never happened. how odd.

Sounds like a fueling issue.

could possibly be O2 sensor on it's way out. it will make the car run crappy. if it continues, keep the car running and disconnect the O2 sensor from the right firewall in the engine bay and see if the car runs any different. if it improves while disconnected - most likely it's that. As mentioned also a fuel pressure issue. maybe pump is starting to go?

could be the pump im thnking....when i push the gas im getting 0 response.

anyone got a fuel pump for 1990 325i (hey...u never know!)

my 02 sensor just gave me a practically perfect e-test.

edit: and i tried the O2 unplugging and it still runs like ass...and eventually stalls after one slight pull on the throttle...as soon as i turn the car on...vroom turns into motor being off like 2 seconds after it starts...

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

yup. fuel pump sounds beat...I got one sitting in my car but I need to turn the car around in my drive first before I remove it. Going to need a boost and then she's good. :-) How soon do you need it?

Doesn't sound like fuel pump to me. Perhaps a clogged fuel filter, water in the gas, disconnected AFM, huge hole in a vacuum line / intake bellows, or arcing spark plug wire.

If your tank was very empty, you might have sucked up some crud from the bottom, and water in the tank would make it run that way. Call the station and ask them if they have had any complaints of water in their tanks that day. Try some gas line anti-freeze to get rid of the water if its a low amount.

Look at everything closely under the the hood, looking for cracks, holes or disconnected stuff. Then pull each plug and look for a plug that looks significantly different than the others.

Fuel pumps tend to just quit, seize up and stop working.

Hmmm

I had something similar happen. I had gas drove fine all day. Came to stop sign and it died. Started fine and happened a couple more times. I was worried and called a friend from Leez Service in Thornhill....he told me to wiggle some sensor/fuse..big square mother...he then came by my house and confirmed that was it. I can't remember the name put it was a quick replace from dealer for fuse under $25 bucks for sure. Maybe it's same thing ? Good luck.

i had the exact same thing happen like 20 minutes ago, it sounded like the engine was flooding and wouldn't rev up, i turn off the car (like "oh $hit...") and restarted, it gurgled then ran fine like nothing happened, its never done that before and hasn't done it since.

It's the AFM wiring or the AFM itself, this happened to me when the AFM wiring shorted out. Unplug it and plug it back in, just for starters.

ok i gave the fuel pump a few wacks, changed the fuel filter, changed the oil (i had the same oil in it for over 1 year, so it was required lol), gave the ICV some wacks, and all in all its running good again...

i think the fuel filter was clogged up or sumthing....

but thanks for all the input folks!

***i still dont trust what i did....i will try out the AFM stuff although the car is running like a champ again.
