My bimmer broke down, and it was running well today, new fuel pump checked spark plugs they are okay and everything, what could be the prob, gas was filled with 87 octane. Battery is good car cranks won't turn on. Started it and then dies eventually...

M42 can run on anything...although I have found it does knock a bit on low octane fuel. it runs best on 89 and up.

I think I've had 18 bmw's in 6 years.

try holding the pedal down slightly. That will bypass the ICV. If it starts then change the ICV. If it won't start check the small lead for voltage coming from the battery, on the 6 cyl cars there is a 50 Amp inline fusible link that can corrode.

Failing that tap on the main relay and the fuel pump relay, pull them out put them back in... etc. And check all fuses.

Good luck, it's most likely one of those things.

Performance one step at a time.
