Tow Truck Driver Ettiquete

So, first and foremost, I have come across A LOT of tow truck drivers. Some were complete inbreds, others were weirdo's, and some were very nice and "normal".

The last time(last week) I had to resort to a tow for the V70R, CAA sent us a very nice guy, he was polite, clean, and didn't cause 700$ worth of damage(like the previous guy did).
My question is, DO YOU TIP them (especially if they are sent to you by CAA) or do you say to yourself, he gets paid, by the company I pay, to do a job, and being friendly is all that I owe them (the approach I have taken in the past).

So, what are your thoughts?

I've only been towed once in my life and that was when our van's alternator blew while driving on the highway. We had CAA and the guy got us and dropped us of at home and then drove the car to where my mom gets it fixed. The experience was pleasant, the guy was nice and didn't take his sweet time. I don't think he even expected anything, he dropped us off and drove away. Next day we picked up our car and that was that.

If we were suppose to tip the guy i feel bad... i've never even thought about this. I wonder what type of rates they receive from the CAA.

all of my tows are through CAA, and if he's actually good at it and is nice, i'll toss him a 20

if he sucks, or is a dick, or spends the entire trip arguing with his wife in the front seat while i sit in the back, listening to them yell about him ****ing his wifes best friend, then no i won't tip

yes that actually happened to me

Never tipped them and one smashed the roof of my truck off a parking garage.

I think I have had one or two normal ones. However whenever I need a tow I am in a bad mood and looking at spending more money so I don't really think about them.

I had a tow truck show up and charged me $40 for a 2 gallon top up. Tip, I don't think so. And another thing, I don't appreciate the kamakazi dudes that speed through city streets and break laws just so they can get a hook up.

I do not understand the point of tipping at a bar...

you buy a 4 dollar drink and they expect .50-2.00 in tip FOR THAT ONE ****IN DRINK..

a bunch of us were at a bar my freind, ordered a round like, 4 beers came around 17 bucks.
he takes the toonie leaves the dollar for tip, the cunt bartender looks at him.

"honey, dont expect me to serve you. so dont come back"

all she did was pull 4 beers out of a fridge and un-cap them.
if she were a man, id give her a hammer fist over the head.

Ive never thought about that. I guess it depends on the circumstances, if he charges 70 for the tow and i only have 20's, ill give him 80 and let him keep it.

When I cut my hair, its 15 for haircut/make the chin strap. So I always give them 20.

When I got to a club is when I'm at my worst! I drop it like it's going out of style. i've left up to 10bucks tip for drinks. normally i'll leave 2bucks. But if shes been cool with me all night i leave more. Normally when I'm in line at the bar. As soon as the girl see's me she'll finish off her customer and come straight to me because she knows i'll tip. I've had people start yelling at them because of this, and I just say, you treat them good, they treat you good.

Sorry for getting off topic master terry

Jay

Do you tip the tow trcuck driver?

Based on the good experience you had, most of the time they will appreciate a sincere thank you.

You can also call CAA and comment of the great service you had by this tow truck guy, giving his name and his tow truck number, I am sure he would be happy too.

and if that is not enough by you, then good service(according to you) is always nice to say your thanks with any amount you feel happy to give.

I once had a tow truck driver meet me at 6am to pick up a broken down car. He brought me with him to tow the car all the way down to Richmond hill from Hwy 9 and Weston Rd. He then drove me all the way back to Schomberg to drop me off at home. He had no obligation to do that, but he did anyways. We would up stopping and pulling a car out of the ditch on the way home too... haha.

Although he did a nice thing, it never occurred to me to tip the guy. That's been the only time so far I've had a tow truck driver come get me.
