Used Car Warranty

Finally, a good used car warranty story. I'm hacking this up on the Blackberry so I'll keep it brief.

Bought the car last year, good price. 2002 540iA off a Chrysler lot. Got tints and the whole bit. Sticking point was driver mirror, it was a bit corroded (glass). They said they'd fix it (damn FIX). All they did was paste shitty custom cut glass OVER the existing one. Glare like fcuk. Complained and such, bought a new piece for $30 off eBay, aspherical, wide, etc. And said screw you guys. I'll be back...

When they sold the car I knew I was getting the DCCI (Daimler Chry) warranty. I undercut their price by $500 and they laughted all the way to the bank. It was $2100 all in covered everything cept powertrain for 2 years 48k.

Stuff has been going wrong bit by bit. First the final stage went... It's covered but I bought one and installed myself for under $100. I have a $100 deductable by the way.

Next, pixels start to go... I still wait. Next, rear window regulators start to go. Wait.

Alternator dies. Bingo!

Now you guys are going wtf! You're going to have Chrysler mechs wrench on your car?!

There's a method to the madness.

A buddy works for a shop across from a Chrylser dealership. Happens Chrysler outsources most of the euro work to them. That shop, though tad pricy, does EXCELLENT work.

Long story short, I got a great shop of my choice (incidentally) to do all the work under warranty AND provide a rental.

You add up the costs...

New Bosch watercooled alternator
New cluster, yeah, BMW factory swap
New window regulators on both rears (full)
Towing to shop
Rental car
... and skilled trusted labor

All parts coming from BMW, not third party.

I should complain about the MAF and O2 sensor too just as well... Hmmmm...

And they laughed at me when I got a DCCI warranty to cover a Bimmer

Rough retail pricing...

Alternator is $700
Window regs full set are $600 a pop x 2 for $1200
Cluster is $800+

So parts would be $2700, all from Parkview BMW. Granted they'll probably get it a bit less. I hear the cost for the watercooled alt is about $599.

Labor... well... that's a biggie TBD and rental days.

This reminds me. One headlight doesn't autolevel. I should tack that on them too.

That was funny read. No offence but for 2002 and late model E39, that 540 is just too expensive to keep it run. I would get id of it.

Too expensive to keep run? Get rid of it? Are you kidding? Every normally faulting component will be replaced before the warranty runs out. The next thing will be the radiator and pump. That's a warranty item. These are just wear and tear items of any E39.

Glad to here they are taking care of you. Get the repairs done asap, they might not be around for much longer.

I hear ya. Today I had em check the control arms, ball joints and the like. Most of it will be replaced as they are 'wearing'. Saves me another high side of a couple hundred plus labor...

Well, about 4000KM left or December.

The radiator cracked. Hello warranty.
Also need to replace the starter (solenoid going)
Fan clutch is acting up...

$100 deductible will do well. I'm thinking hard of other things to replace while warranty is still in effect.

On the bad side, I've got a Dodge Caliber as a loaner. Drives like a marshmallow on wheels. Somehow I feel the Nissan Versa I got last time was actually better.

Let the mechs do a overall assessment and have them determine what needs to be replaced in one shot since you have a per incident deductible.
