e30 ellipsoids - light upgrade

I plugged in the lights and this was my outcome:

with the lows on I wired them up until I got lows. then went to the highs but when I got the highs to work the lows were out. so now they switch back and forth like cops lights do when they are in a emergency..kinda kewl but wondered is this it? all 4 come on when I put the highs on when I tried my other cars ellipsoids. the 2nd car has them factory..

Any suggestions please?

thank you.

You need to jump pin 30 on the high beam relay to pin 30 on the low beam relay.

thanks Steve; you know it cost me 90.00 bucks for all the hardware to get the lights functioning. (Grin) my cost. Could you please elaborate on how you jump the two?

thx.

I didn't know it was that much. As for them being in bad shape. The ones I'm using now were about the same, I just cleaned them up on the wire wheel and they work alright.

Here is an explaination of what to do. I never did it myself. But this guy seems to know what to do.

The lights are fine; I salvaged what I could and kept half the adjusters. But seriously the tabs which you hold to adjust fell off when trying. So I went ahead and replaced the absolute worse ones. just so you know; list for the adjusters is 22.00 ea. 5.00 for the grommet. so it would have cost me double had I not had someone on the inside.
I also cleaned up the trim rings. Sanded them and painted them gloss met black. instead of the shinny silver.

Thanks for the information. hopefully next cruise I'll have the car out.

You sure that's the correct link? my browser came up with an page load error.

nevermind, I got it to work. :-)
