Autotrader

Hey
I just want to bring a story to light as I find it kinda unsettling.

As most of you know, kijiji and craigslist have their fair share of scams.

Nigeria scam, im out of the country scam, i got a cheque for $1 000 000 but need $2 000 for the admin fee.. etc etc.

Looks like autotrader is now taking money from these scammers as well. No biggie to internet savvy/familiar individuals like ourselves.

So I heard from a friend that works at autotrader, that they are fully aware of these scams, and they don't take any active steps to stop them.

Anyways, the point.
My older aunt has been looking for a nice car for a long time now, so she saw a Z4 on autotrader for dirt cheap. Thinking it was a great deal she contacted the individual who proceeded with the bullshit about it being in a container etc etc.

She eventually said no, but i had to explain to her its a common scam. That got me thinking... she's pretty bright, but not everyone is.

I hate seeing people being taken advantage of, especially the old.
Shouldn't Autotrader bare some sort of responsbility about this.. i mean...
damn...

anyone feel me?

Yea, I've been wondering why Autotrader is allowing those posts....I see A LOT of them, and can spot one immediately. You should see how many scams are posted under motorcycles on autotrader.

But why is autotrader taking money from these people is what I would like to know as well

You can report them to Autotrader admins but they don't do squat.

If I had to guess I'd say that it's used car dealers who want to get the used cars for sale for cheap, so they pad the crap out of the classifieds with cheap equivalent cars, so there is far fewer competition for the car they want (while all the space-cadets are emailing the 8000 M3 ads, they play hardball with the guy selling his for 30, saying listen you have barely any interest but I'll take it for 25 cash now).

They are not stolen cars, they are non-existing cars. They'll tell you to send money to Nigeria, UK etc. and they'll ship you the car..
