hydro-lock what cars? where did they drive? how big was the puddle? did they have air intake? because I heard a lot of Dinan bmw's crying that day and anyone else that had an intake go low to the ground.
dude, ceeker has worked for bmw for MANY years, he's more than likely seen a lot more than you have.

and don't nitpick about brake pads and rotors, oil changes and belts, we're talking irregular maintenance here.

e46s go through alternators and cooling systems, its a fact of life. they will also pull the threads for the head bolts out of the block and throw electrical problems at you if you look at them the wrong way. modern BMWs are built with those little government regulations screaming in their ear that each car produced can only have so much of an impact on the environment and only use so much resources to build or the company will be fined (or the buyer will be fined via gas guzzler taxes)

Simply put, older bmws were so insanely overengineered that's why they are around today. I guarantee that the ONLY reason you'll see an e46 in 10 more years is because everyone and their grandmother has one and theres bound to be someone that passes away, the family forgets they had one in a field and another guy will find it say "hey its a bmw, but what the hell is it?"

edit: having said the above my parents have a 330i, and it is a fantastic car, but even so I cant wait to hop into my e30 with its faded paint and rusted fenders

2002 320i, 152,000 Km and running strong.

How many of you noticed quite a decrease in performance with higher kilometers (150k+). By performance i mean like acceleration....
