I got mine from the seller eurodepot. It even came in the BMW baggie, with the factory p/n sticker on it. I think it was like 10-12 bucks (not as cheap as I remember but still... it wasn't a generic blank, it had the proper plastic grip).

The keys are laser cut and are DAMN sharp when you get them.
I don't remember them saying they come from Germany but it took a week to get them cut. They did need to photocopy my registration to cut the keys. I do recall $35 a key.

Hmm, I'm not sure when the change happened (not like I need to get this done on a regular basis). But I remember asking last year and it was like 35 bucks all said and done, but I was too lazy to get it done. When I first heard the new price, I called all the BMW dealers in the area. Budds was hilarious, the guy punches it into the computer, he's like "mm E30 key... one hundred... what!? this used to be like 30 bucks... I'm sorry". Then I visited and asked for an online inv check at Home Depot, CT, Walmart, Rona, no one had anything. Walmart even showed the key in stock, but the boxes are empty. I'm not huge on conspiracy theories but it's too much when the same time when BMW quadruples their prices, every blank disappears from the retailers.

My local key cutter whipped me one up for $5. It's a cheap, generic blank. Took him a few minutes to find one, but was no prob.

Almost cheaper than from the dealer - even with airfares!!!!!!!
Or you could all send me the keys to your e30's...... I'll set up a Canadian address....
If anyone wants, I'd actually be fairly happy to send a load of blanks over. Might not work out any cheaper than ebay though.

Shoppers World Brampton Canadian Tire has them. They're not oem but they have the proper blank.

If you just want a Ilco key that will be your backup go to the locksmith in Bronte in Oakville. He carries e30 blanks for $6 or so. He's located in the plaza with the pioneer gas station at Bronte Rd. and Lakeshore.
I remember 2 years ago I bought an OEM key for my vert off ebay. I think it was $18 or so and C tire cut it for free for me.

I had the same problem with my E30 many years ago. I ran a search in my Microsoft Outlook archives to recall that I had cut a copy of my E30 key based off an Ilco X140 VL8 Volvo key blank. I just brought the key, told them it was for a Volvo and it cost me $3 at Locks Engravable in Cedarbrae Mall (Markham/Lawrence) back in 2006.
