On the round plug under the hood all you need to do is take a piece of wire and plug it into pin 7 and pin 19(ground)

Do this with ignition off. Once you have the wire in place turn the ingnition to position 2 but dont start the car. If you do this for 4 seconds Oil Service is reset, if you do it for 10 seconds Inspection Service is reset. Turn ignition to off and Viola!

There must be a few write ups on this. But that how you do it.

You didn't give any details of the specific engine in your car -

If it is a six cylnder engine with the round multi pin connector for engine diagnosis you simply need someone to sit in the car and turns the key to position 2 (without starting the car). you then use a single piece of wire connected to terminal #7 and touch it to engine ground for ten seconds. Turn the key to off and check if the reset has occured. The doors must be closed otherwise it will not reset.

If you have an eight cylinder engine - like a 540i you use the following procedure:

- Iginition OFF (POS 0)
- Press and Hold the trip odometer button while turning key to position 1 (ACCESSORY)
- Keep the button depressed (about 5 secs.) until you see "Oil Service" or "Inspection" with "Reset" or "Re" in the display
- *Note: On vehicles with "High" cluster, you will also see the amount of fuel (in litres) remaining until next service
- Press the button again and hold for approx. 5 secs. until "Reset" or "Re" flashes
- While the display is flashing, briefly press the button again to reset the Service Interval. After the display has shown the new interval you should see "END SIA" for about 2 secs.
Note that if the "Reset" or "Re" does not flash, then you have not met the minimum consumption level and cannot reset.

Good Luck.

Thanks Ike

Second way works.

But is not necessary to have 540. This way is suitable for any E39 after September 2000.
I have a description of second procedure, but with missing one step. Therefore it didn't works.
Now I have full right description.

Thanks.

NO.
You have a round connector. Therefore you have to use pin#7 , grounded it. Just read previos post.

Unfortunately I forget this.
I remember that for reset service light you can connect +positive pin #11 or 14 with some pin, probably #7.
Other way to grounded it.
But, I am not sure regarding pin number!!!!!!
Please, check wire diagram for service connector!!!!!
And check precedure, may be some body else answer for your question.
This I used for all car before 1999.
