From yesterdays CSCS event. I qualified 15th and beat out the number 2 spot in first round. Then top 8 beat out the miata in an intense tandem battle. Judges were loving my entry speed and early initiations. I got into top 4 and choked in my runs finishing 4th overall. None the less a good day.
Edit: Power steering crapped out on me the night before so I did the entire event without it. ****ing arms are so sore from it.
Here is some footage I have from my run with the skyline. Uneditted. Yes I spun on the first run but luckily it was after the judged section
I see, what exactly would it mean the diff is fully locked, that one wheel will never spin without the other ? and out of curiosity how many tires did you go through yesturday?
is it true in order to drift proper on dry you need LSD ?
I was researching this awhile back. I couldn't find evidence to indicate that drifting was possible in dry pavement without an LSD or a locked center (very bad for drivetrain and tyres). I am not going to believe some random n00b on a forum say "yeah it's possible, my buddy's gf's uncle's newphew did it". I couldn't come up with anything concrete so I'd say somewhat certainly that you need an LSD (any type) to pull off a drift/2 wheel burnout.

it is possible to slide a car in an open diff but to hold it is another story. when you apply gas only the inside tire would spin hence maintaining a drift would be difficult.
the locked diff allows power to be distributed evenly b/n both wheels on accelleration and decelleration. The proper way (expensive) way would be to run a 2-way differential or even 1.5 way stock LSD is 1 way.
Unless you are professionally drifting or tracking for that matter, there's absolutely no need for a 2 way LSD. A 2 way LSD as obtained in a clutch type transfers power during acceleration and deceleration. If you're planning on drifting on weekends as a hobby then you won't need that extra push because you'll be doing what most amateurs do, mashing the throttle to keep the revs high enough to sustain a drift. A 1 way mechanical LSD will suffice for that and you'll pay a lot less in the long run for it.
