Someone re-educate me on modern decks.

Hey all,

I've been running the same JVC cd-deck in my e36 for over 4 years, and as of recently, it has been giving me some issues; I believe I am due for a new/newer one.

I'm looking for a cd/ipod-deck in the sub $250 mark. Do these products exist?

What are the good brands atm?

Is it safe to buy used? (criegslist/kijiji)

I stopped by futureshop (dixie&dundas) the other day, what a waste of time that was!

Why's that? Future Shop has 7-8 decks with ipod connectivity for <$250

Just picked up a used alpine 9835, with FM adapter and AUX input cable for 180$. Best deck i've ever had.

On display was no more then a dozen decks in total, I was ignored for a long while and when I was finally approached by a 'representative', he did nothing but try to up-sell me on some ridiculous 500$ deck with absolutely no apparent knowledge on any of his products.

yeah some stores are pretty bad.
