A/C Repair

Does RPM or Bimmersport do AC repair?

My compressor won't turn on (even on defrost) and I want to get it fixed before the seasonal rush after the first hot day.

I took it in to a local shop they charged me $80, told me the system is full of R-134a and that I should take it to the dealer as it must be "something electrical".

Thanks,
Frank

Thanks for the replies...

Pressure Switch:
On my 01 530, the pressure switch is a pressure sensor (variable output depending on pressure) I could not find what the resistance should be for a given pressure.

Low on Freon:
Nope, First and second shop said it was OK.

Heater Valve:
Interesting.. makes sense, but that was not the problem....

I took it to RMP today and Rocco had the problem figured out in 10 minutes. The DME showed an aux fan fault. The DME won't switch on the A/C compressor if the aux fan test fails.

Rocco gave me a great price on a new aux fan and I will be putting it on in the next hour.

A/C works great now...

I removed the fogs, bumper, lights, ducting, and air intake. The fan had shorted out and melted (!) part of the wires & circuit board.

There was lots of sand/leaves/crap between the pusher fan and the condenser. I replaced the fan, and checked the fan fuse. the 50A (again!!) had popped. Once the fuse was replaced, and the DME reset the a/c works great.

The new fan must be a different design, as it is 80% quieter than before.
