Advice on current DigiCams?.....
I just sold my Nikon CoolPix 990 and want to upgrade to something more current. The camera's i'm looking at now are (in order of choice so far)....
Olympus Camedia C-5050 (5 Megapixel, F1.8 lens)
Canon PowerShot G3 (4 Megapixel, F2.0 lens)
Nikon CoolPix 4500 (4 Megapixel, F2.6 Lens)
Does anyone know anything about these cameras? The Olympus is the newest one on the market, has the strongest flash, best quality lens... and by far the best options for the price... I'm leaning towards it. The Nikon doesn't even have a hot-shoe for external flashes! They're all within $150 of eachother.

I havent read anything on the first camera, so I cant tell you anything on that, but I"ve hear really good reviews on the G3's, and the Nikon is good, but I THINK, the features arent as good as the G3 (dont quote me on that)
you can always goto www.dpreview.com and check out the reviews yourself.

You can check out http://www.imaging-resource.com for sample pics and reviews.
I'd lean personally towards the G3 though.

So it just depends on what kind of pictures you want to take. That way you get the right equipment, much like building a computer in a certain way to achieve certain results.

thanks Golden! I haven't seen that one yet, but by the looks of it, should be a contender. The only things that the Olympus Camedia still has over it are: F1.8 lens (better night shots), swivel screen, and (my preference) AA litium batteries.

ahh, i was really into researching them for a while
the Carl Ziess lens on the sony is top notch, i was considering the olympus as well, but i hated the swivel display, it seemed very flimsy
the prob i see with the sony is that it uses expensive sony memory stick, but, the new memory stick can be HUGE, like 1 gig+
if your at all interested in shooting video, the sony has unlimited video capabilities which is pretty cool
yea, i think i might pick up the sony when it comes out, one of the reasons i didnt like the f717 was because of the size.. this one is nice
