First, I hate you.

Second, what were your thoughts between them all?

I have driven a few e36, and liked them. They felt solid, a lot like my e34. My father-in-law's 1992 318i is great. Stick shift, not that great shape, no mods, but drives light and nimble.

The E46 feels bloaty and soft. The 330i was the worst. It was fast-ish, but scooting around town it felt awfully balloon-like. The newest was an '04. It was very clean, but still felt disconnected from the road. The E90 doesn't compare. It feels SO good in comparison.

Sorry to all the E46 owners I just insulted. No offence, YMMV.

One thing I've found with all the years e30, e36, e46, e39, e34 etc. is that condition has everything to do with how they feel. I've driven e36's that felt heavy, bloated slow etc. and I've driven e36's in great condition that feel light and nimble with great feedback. Same goes for e34's and e30's, e46's, and e39's. whatever

Hell for e39's I went through so many bad examples when I was looking for mine that I started to assume they all drove like shit, so I almost stopped even looking for one because I didn't want a car that drove like that. But before I did that, I decided to drive one that was several thousand above what I wanted to spend but was in mint shape, and it blew me away at how different it felt. Needless to say I stopped looking for a 'deal', and payed more for a better example, and am very happy for it.

But it just goes to show what taking care of a car means for how it feels and drives.

Which is what makes me wonder why you didn't like the e46 Jay? I've only driven two, but I quite liked both of them. Both were 330's w/sport package.

It totally could have been the shape of the car, for sure. Bad bushings, shocks, etc. But on a 2004 325i with 80K you'd think it would feel better. It didn't feel "new", it felt "old" and like a "buick".

Was it the sport package, or the regular suspension?

And to Chromius' point, I feel like mine needs a lot of work to drive more "ultimate." Perhaps I should have followed his lead and looked for something a little nicer....

Was regular suspension for sure, which again I hadn't thought of.

My fave was a 328 6 spd with sport package, second was the Benz...I never drove the 335i or 335d. Rather than wait for the cars, I just jumped in whatever I could. Seat time was more important than the type of car. I did get a ride in the 335d from one of the pros. Very cool. They make it look so easy.

I also got a ride in the A4, Nobody makes interiors like Audi. So nice, from the seats, to the gauges and even there version of i-drive was very intuitive. Granted, none of the cars I piloted had Nav/i-drive...

I even enjoyed the 323 but the sport pack makes turn and curves become straight roads. There's no upsetting the chassis on quick transitional maneuvers. Another thing with the X-drive is that the cars drift rather than have the DSC kick in, unlike the RWD vehicles I drove. Makes for an interesting ride. :shifty:

So, I shouldn't just jump in the cheapest E39? Got it.

Quoted for total truth. I had the choice between 328i without sport, or 323i with sport and I know I made the right choice.

Anyone have an E36 front wheel speed sensor

I busted mine when I was changing my suspension, anyone have one kicking around?

I'm tempted...I could sell my car for nearly the same price. Oh the decisions!

anybody got any leads on a reasonable milaged m50 or m52 for my 93 318is
or a next to free m42

coolant res went (over pressurization, im told) so i need a new rad? (got that covered),
but my timing chain is clacking like a sewing machine or sum crap..
just had a mls h/g put in there like less then 3K ago, profile gasket + redone after like 1k after the h/g rebuild

I mean sure i could park it (already been for about 2,3 weeks) & have it all fixed,
but fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. what to do? either way theres time and $ involved..

really don't know what to do anymore..
