money might be tight if union cannot get you another job ...

Yeah, everyone has already said it.... as far as I'm concerned, better safe than sorry!! I'd take the car back, you can always get it back into the shop at a later date to continue work on it. If you spend the money however, and something comes up, it's not as easy to get it in a pinch.

Put the car on hold... life's a bitch.

Take the car back and hold onto your money. If you get the job in the Trump building, just take it back. Times are tough and having a pretty car won't make it any better.

Thanks for the responses guys! This morning I pulled the car out of the shop, they had just put it on the hoist right when i showed up. I put the lights all back on and drove it back home. Now its parked once again in the garage. Hopefully work picks up!

Sorry to hear about the bad news. Itís a terrible time for everyone right now as there is so much uncertainty roaming many industries.

The wise move would be to get your car back.
At this moment, you don't know if you're able to secure another job that can support you during this time. That money you set aside for this resto can be left alone incase you come across a tough time.
I know that you don't want to disappoint your friends at the shop, but sometimes you need to make some tough choices so you don't get burnt at the end. Youíre better safe than sorry...and now you have the opportunity to be safe so I hope you make the right choice.

Take your car back. Don't even think about it. Your money is a lot more valuable than a restored car right now.

Smart move! You can always get the car done when things turn around...and they will...it's just a matter of when?

If you want balls on your chin you can have work at sundown on church street.

But seriously now, I am working two jobs + my little selling used parts on the side business.

brother the job market will get worst before it gets better,I have customers who regularly drive up in $40k+ cars, the last three months the same people are either laid off or the company just closed,no warning at all!!!.I know white collar workers who taken jobs at Mickey D's and Timmies just to compensate for the lack of hours they are getting. This recession is hitting hard and deep and no BS from posters we're not in a recession and things will get better in the third quarter. It will bottom out by fall but any sort of recovery wont happen until mid 2010 at the earliest.Look around the malls are active but no one is buying,I know a guy at 2001 and his sales of higher end TV's and audio is down %40 compared to last year at the same time, his staff is down to 5 people compared to 11 last year, either they quit (slow sales) or just got laid off.Used car sales are up though I heard since no one is buying new.The sign of desperation is Leons got so many applications for jobs they are filing it away without even looking at them, the do not pay for 24 months,no downpayment, etc, etc is saving them from losing money bigtime, good marketing but on a profit scale they are making very little.

----save your money, anything that is not for food or shelter you should hold off buying----

Hi Jay

You made the best choice for youself in today's economic time.

Today I deleted another 5 employees from the system, all in around 40 plus terminated and I believed more coming.

times are really tough and waking up to gloom and doom news is not what we all are accustomed to.

Hope you find another job soon.

This is a no-brainer! Why would you even consider it. Well, you are human, I'll give you that much. Put your wants aside brother, you don't need it. You can wait a month or two until your know for sure you're back on the job, or are working again. Don't risk it! Who ever said you should cut back on other things in life at the moment, but get your car done, probably doesn't give two shits whether or not you'll end up on the streets tomorrow or not. Do yourself a favor and don't let your materialistic side get to you.

This reminds me of the 'life in miami must really suk' thread.

Moral of the american(miami) dream 'story' is, is that you shouldn't live in such excess when you don't have the money. You don't know what may happen tomorrow.

/end
