Life is usually about about compromise and tradeoffs. Everyone has a different balance. For me...cheap house so I can afford a Muskoka cottage, boat, sleds etc...If I move back to TO...all the little nicities are gone...

Complaining about $89? My property tax in Milton is going up by $300 over the next 5 years as they say my house is "worth" $450K - BULLSHIT! Couldn't sell is for $420K even before the downturn!!

Property tax isn't overly high in Toronto. About average. Values are what are killing everyone. Your CVA is higher than other areas, such as barrie hence higher taxes.
Toronto government is pure NDP and has vested so much into social services in Toronto that their infrastructure has suffered huge. Hence when the citizens cry over social service cuts and infrastructure crumbles, taxes must come up.

I dont think the hike is that bad.. BUT coupled in with all the other BS we need to pay- new garbage bins, new plate fees, etc- it adds up.
least we can charge people to rent up the ass.

And Sydney being one of the more expensive cities in the world to live in.

Lets take the population of Canada vs China. There are many poor here as well. They just hide it with credit cards and loans. You just have to come down on the ground and dig deeper by not looking from the air at CN tower and skyline. If I am not mistaken, they sold more new cars in China than Us not long ago. I am sure that some cars in china are not the best , but Americans are not much better as well.

The poor here dont live the same as the poor in china.
The poor in china work as slaves for 1 dollar a day. And barely survive.
The poor in canada work make at least minimum, get benefits from the government, and can raise a family and not starve to death.
