January: largest monthly employment loss in 30 years.

"OTTAWA - Canada suffered its worst monthly job loss in at least three decades in January as 129,000 more workers across the country became victims of the economic slump.

The country has never seen a monthly job drop like this since Statistics Canada began compiling the data this way in the 1970s, not even during the recessions of the early 1980s and 1990s.

The job losses were felt in every region of the country and impacted almost all industries, as the unemployment rate soared to 7.2 per cent, from 6.6 per cent in December."

not very uplifting news to here that there has not been a monthly job loss of this magnitude for at least 30 years.

it is scary indeed. i was injured and lost my job. i felt the down sizing in a different way. i havent been able to find a job, but i might have one lined up if all goes well, its not glamorous by all means, but it will make me money.

i guess there are more people with out jobs that i had thought, given the more than 7% unemployment rate.

ya, and that 7% unemployment statistic is based on how many are claiming Unemployment insurance. I cant claim EI until my severence runs out in April.

Ya.. it is scary.. my company just laid off more than 300 employees in 2 round and round 3 and 4 is coming... lost a few close co-workers from this batch.

I found this website: http://happen.ca/ , for those that are laid off.. might want to check it out, to see if this wil help you in your job search..
