BMW Business CD Alpine?

If the following is true (Alpine), why does the 2002-2004 E46's sound system sound so bad?
An aftermarket Alpine deck is so clean, even with factory speakers.

My old Grandprix with an Alpine decks attached to factory speakers (no amp) sounded so much better than the BMW.

I didn't know Alpine made the OEM decks for the newer e46's.

1999-2001

The part number on my old one says: 65 12 6 909 882

2005-2006
