trading my car for a e39 530i

my plan was to sell my 2003 330ci and upgrade to a e46 m3. After looking for a clean m3, i noticed they were little bit over my budget. So i was thinking of maybe a e36 m3, which is my fav body style. But yesterday talking to the wife, she thought it would be a better idea to get a 4 door since i will need to pick up our 16month old son from daycare from now on. So that got me thinking maybe i should try a e39, wouldn't mind a bigger vehicle and i could always upgrade to an m3 when my son gets older. And i realize my best friend was trying to sell his 530i, its a 2003 blk on blk with about 114000km, still have 2 years of warranty left on it and he just got inspection II done. I gave him a call and he would like to do a straight trade, you guys think going from a 3 to a 5er is something i would regret? should i get a 4 door e46 330i? never owned a 5 series before, only had 3's from e30's to e36 and now my e46.

i drove an e39 about 2 or 3 months ago.....i thought it handled nice, rode nice sounded okay for stock exhaust.....it was bigger than what im used to, so it was sorta awkward to drive seeing as how i wasnt used to it.....i have never driven an e46 so i cant compare the 2...but i can say i was pretty satisfied with the 530....

We have a e39 540i in the family, e39 is a very nice car, and the bodystyle is timeless. I would go ahead with the trade!!!

No brainer, trade it in. You will love the e39.

my main concern right now is would i regret not getting a 540i, from the reviews i've read people are saying 530i to a 540i is a huge difference. And gas mileage is not too bad.. However i can't seem to find any good 540i..

Any reason why a 530 is a lot more expensive than a 540? I'm also in the market for an e39

I think 5ers drop value more when they get older. See like 1995 525 and 325i. 3 series could be worth some coin. Maybe that's because all E34s are so beaten up.

Test drive it. Its key. Than tell us what you think. I like them, but they have to be standard only. They're not very reliable either in comparison to your E46.

That car is 03, do they still accept to service 6 year old car under the warranty. + an other 2 years , it would be 8 years... Is that the case?

we have now both agreed on the trade. Will be trading tonight. Only prob was that he did not have any winter tires since he stores his car in winter. So he agreed to purchase some new winter tires for me and mount it on his m5 wheels. Currently has 19" TSW Snettertons on with general tires. Also gonna have to redo the front tints, its pretty much a gurantee ticket, also gonna have to redo the suspension, its way to high in the rear end.

Heres some pics of the 530i

the e39 looks great, i think it is a fair trade, you will love the car! You should also get rid of the chrome around the windows!

yeah already planning for that this weekend, gonna paint the window trims and the front grill's satin black. Next will be to remove the orange from corners, then some m5 side mirrors. Then m5 steering, and maybe if i can find a set of m5 seats. Summer comes, then it will be m5 frnt/rear bumpers and side skirts, also exhaust to match the rear bumper. And most likely sell the current 19" snettertons and swap out for another set of rims. Can't believe i already have a list started and i dont even have the car yet, lol

gorgeous car buddy. I love it! Is that picture in the Northeast?
Keep the tint too, its only a $100 dollar ticket, and I only got one (on my car with 5%) in my 3 years of driving in Calgary, and I was near the gay street races near Forest Lawn where cops hangout on friday nights.
