its a toss up...which camera?

so im in the market finaly for a new camera. i have decided to go with either the Nikon D60, or the Canon Rebel XS....the only advantage that i can tell is that the Canon has live veiw....which appears to be crap....so its not really an advantage.....any unbias opinions would be great....

do you have any friends you can share lenes with?

About 5 guys in my office has canon, i've had mine for a month now, and just been borrowing everyones to try out, to find which one i like most and matches my needs.

The feaure differences are minor, i think it's less about the camera and more about you learning how to use it and become good at it.

Here's a comparison of the two cameras.

http://www.digitalreview.ca/content/...XS-1000D.shtml

Personally, I wouldn't buy either one. If your going to buy the d60, your better off buying the d40, and saving the money for a better lens. Lenses are key, not the body. Although camera bodies do make a difference, but its better to buy nicer lenses.

I would suggest buying the d40, if you want to stick to nikon. If you want to go canon, buy the xsi instead of the xs.

I had the D60 and loved it - they only issue I had with the D40/D40x/D60 units were that you were limited to AF-S lenses, if you wanted autofocus. You could use the other lenses, but this series of machines lack the AF screw mechanism to autofocus the older lenses. As a result, you had to buy newer, more expensive ones.

I sold mine after 4 months and really getting into it. I now have a D80 and love the lens choice. I will most likely hold on to mine for about a year or so and then move to a D300 or maybe, if the stars line up just right, a D700.

I disagree about the D40 v. D60. There are some major differences between the camera's that are nice. The sensor cleaner, in camera editting, newer processor, etc. Not to mention that the price difference is about $100 (body only or with kit lens) so why not get 4 MP more? It'll make cropping that much easier.

I would suggest that you forego the kit 18-55 lens. It's nothing special. Go body only and jump up to an 18-70 or 18-135. You'll like them better. If you've got cash to spend, do 18-200VR. Once you get used to this, you'll start getting into primes. My lens list goes something like this.

18-135 3.5-5.6, 20 2.8, 60 2.8 Micro, 80-200 2.8

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat more.

so i basically decided the nikon is the better choice.... i also did a comparison of the D40 and the D60....the D60 has only a few minor things that the D40 doesnt, and they dont make a difference in photo quality....so i probably will go with the D40 and save the 200 some odd dollars and yes, get a better lens..

thanks for the input ...

+1 on the Nikon , yes Quack several of my pals have also gone over to them , I still run a 25 year old FE that cranks out amazing photos and can shoot on M90 with no power , lenses of choice prime Nikkor ia manual . Build quality and reputation . T.Dot E30 made a good statement regarding your choices, learning the camera and its attributes , learning how to compose and lots of Patience , how the rig feels in your hands , and of course how much or how deep do you want to get into this field.

Go to Aden - Futureshop guys know squat about this stuff. Or print out Aden's price and take it to Henry's.

I would suggest the OP not go to aden camera. Yes their prices are good, but their service sucks, and the have a no return policy. Its only an exchange for the exact same product.

Its better to just price match aden.

Henry's is my store of choice. Service is always good there.
