There are a few hidden gem trails around ontario, that would make most Pro's go WOW.

I beg to differ on the starter bike. He can spend $400-700 and get a great starter bike with decent aluminum frame, reliable components, disc brakes, okay fork, and low end wheels for that range. I think Silent sports has some great Norco's on sale now for $499 with all of the above.

If you want used, you can find some nice buys but you need to know your bikes and components well before you go out and buy a used bike. I wouldn't suggest it. Most people ask too much for used bikes anyways.

A long time ago, when I was sponsered/racing and riding everyday, i was working at cyclepath and running our weekly race series for the surrounding area. Very grass roots feel, we built some amazing trails just north of Newmarket. I mean, incredible trails. I wonder if they are still around?

Max mountain bike meet 2009? lets do it.

Dude, you must be in crazy good shape because if you can make it up that one hill at Waterdown (connects two divides of sorts) in that torrential downpour, I'd be seriously impressed. I could not even stand on that hill without falling on my ass, let alone climb the hill on foot. In the dry, it would just be a matter of putting the hammer down.

Yeah I agree about Hilton and Kelso having nothing demanding. Hardwood has the extreme trail which is pretty neat. Have you been to Buckwallow, that's fun but it's so bloody far away. Well from me anyway.

My fave places are the Don and Buckwallow.

I'm up for this meet. I may not be behind the wheel of a Bimmer by then so if I'm invited I'll come out.

I bought a Cannondale F2 last year like the one on the pic. But i was very unhappy with it. Spokes started to rust after a month and lots of issues with it so i sold it. I never liked rear suspension bikes as i mainly ride on tarmac.
Now i have a Mongoose as i got a good deal on it exactly the same as the second pic. No where as fancy but at half the price i am waaaaay more satisfied!

Get a road bike for tarmac riding. Much lighter and faster.

-What brands would you recommend for me? I'm not an amateur, but my budget is only around 400ish. I need the wheel(s) to be detachable so I can stuff them in my trunk. I don't like folding the seats down (break in!!).
-where did you get it? where is a good place for purchasing these bikes?

Thanks man. Trying to do a bit more exercise for the new year.
Go talk to the guys at Ancaster cycle if you are in Hamilton.
