Yes, you dont want a rusty one. Trust me!
I've dumped way to much money into this thing in the 2 years Ive owned it..
-New gas tank ($500)
-Starter
-New gas lines (~$80)
-New control arms (~$500)
-New tie rods ($300)
-Strut bearings tops ($300)
-New Exhaust ($160)
...and still not done. got a steering swivel joint, and some transmission work to do still...brake lines...ugh
My saving grace is doing most of this myself. Double the costs above, if I was to have all the work done at a mechanic.

thanks again everyone just another noob question..i read the e30 buying checklist
so if i find a car i like and want to get it checked out at a mechanic.. do i book and appointment and request the seller to drive it there? how much does a service like that cost? and i foot the bill? so for example.. if it costs a hundred each time and i check out 5 cars that's like 5bills down the drain and i might still have nothing?

why not try calling some shops and checking out how much it would (if it would cost anything) to check out a car....or maybe you can split the cost with the seller.

Pretty much it, yeah. You could, however, find a "buying an e30 checklist" here or on e30tech.com or r3vlimited.com and also take 20 pics of each car, post them here and get our opinions. Then the good candidates get checked for mechanical at a garage.

Get lots of pics of things like license plate lights, rocker panels, carpet (to show water stains which likely = rust), under body, under motor (oil leaks), etc.

No, Stay with your E28. You said an E32 was better than an E30 so i hope you never buy another E30 again.

#1 rule when e30 shopping: be patient. I took two years to find mine. Mostly because nearly all Ottawa e30's are rusty beeches.

Very good rule. If you rush a week later you'll see a cheaper better condition e30 than you got. and you will cry.
