Toronto Honda rant

Okay I know this is Max, but it was actually here where I heard of the free oil changes for 2008 promotion they were having (Jim E posted it I believe), I want to know how it went for you guys (there was quite a few people who were gonna bring their beater Civics in there for the free oil change). I just posted this rant on Toronto Civics, but that place is like dead now, so I'm copying it here, I want to know how your experiences were..

Anyways, the idea of a promotion like this is to (hopefully) impress the customer so that they bring their car there, correct? Well they failed EPICALLY. I am never going to this place again. I've spent like nothing there and yet I feel ripped off.

To make a long story short, their service is just pathetic. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't suddenly going to bring my Civic there for all my maintenance if service was good, BUT, there ARE some things you need to go to the dealer for (parts, abs diagnostics, etc), and I won't be going there, and neither will any of my friends or family.

First of all a lot of their staff are rude. Last time I went there, I was waiting in line, and when it was my turn the guy who was supposed to help me turned to his coworker and clearly/loudly said "omg can you help him I am late for my break" and was all pissy. I've only brought it there maybe 3 times total and two out of those times the employees seem annoyed. It also took 3+... yes, over 3 hours for them to do the oil change. I don't mean to be picky, I'm not demanding it to be done in record time but 3 hours?? It wasn't even busy at all.....I was on time for my appointment. What a waste of time, any dealer would do it in an hour...

Second of all they are such scam artists when it comes to the interval. Their recommended is 6k/3 months. They write on the sticker for 4 months or 6k, but whatever. But the point is, it's ALWAYS X milage, or Y months, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. Well my friend is at the dealer now, she got an oil change there on Oct 17th, she has gone maybe 6500 km since her last one, and the guy was refusing to give her the oil change!! He was saying to come back in February 17th (4 months since her last one), despite the KM being over! Funny how they STRESS that it's "whichever comes first" when you're paying but this guy was actually trying to tell her to wait until February to do it (because then she would have to pay since it's the new year). That would've been like 13000km on dino oil and filter, it's ridiculous and WAY over the specified maintenance.

Simply unacceptable that they would do this. I can live w/ the rude treatment and long wait times, I understand it WAS free (however, IMO, if they want repeat customers then they should be nice to the people getting free oil changes, otherwise why throw away money doing them if you're going to treat them like **** and make them not come back..). But flat out lying and telling someone that they should wait 13000 km for an oil change (again, it's dino oil on a 98 civic not synthetic or anything) is just f*cked up, coming straight from a service advisor at your local Honda dealer.

PS. None of their outlets work for your laptop

3 hours of my time is a waste of my money right there. mr.lube does oil changes in 15 minutes .. I rather take a honda to mr.lube then wait 3 hours to get it done free.

Yeah, I agree about the 3 hour part. They say it takes an hour, which is not bad, but one of the times I was waiting for over 3 hours (was late for another appointment because of that). The other two they did it in 1-1.5 hrs.

BTW, just got off the phone with my friend, she got her car back, and this time they wrote it for 8000km instead of 6k on the sticker heh...I don't know wtf they're doing just writing random stuff on there instead of the normal maintenance interval, they don't give a ****.

PS. If anyone has a Civic, I know of a really good mechanic (he does Hondas mostly) in Markham that I bring my car to, let me know.

There is just a formal inspection. They rock a car from the bottom to make it look like they are inspecting. Some teenage kid goes around to oil/lubricate the locks and so on. Scary just to see him get close to your car. The manager on the duty put so much pressure to sell me airfilter for 3 x times more than regular cost on GM car. Imagine the scenerio on a import. oh. I was lucky to be out with 45 bucks damage hehe.

I was told that they tell people that thir oil pan bolt is bad so they try to get you to buy new one. My friend got so very pissed.

I guess there are woman and morons that fall for that crap but when I had my mx6 .. i asked for a oil change .. paid my $24-29 and got out. Occasionally they would come back with something and I would say "cool, thanks for letting me know" and that was the end of it.

Hey BlitzSix,
I have some people in Honda that I have forwarded your concerns to that want to contact you. If you can PM me you email I will send you the guys email that I got. They are not really impressed with the situation that you and your friend were put through. Not sure what they are going to offer you but its worth a try...

OMG that's who I got to he is awesome!!

Conti, PMing you now, interested to see what they say... I appreciate the help!

Arash: Cliffs: They didn't want to honor an oil change that was overdue KM wise because the 4 month period wasn't up yet, but it's supposed to be whichever comes first..

No Problem man! I know if one of my clients was not happy with the product that I sell I would want to make sure that he walks away satisfied no matter what... so thought I would send a quick email to Honda since I have a few contacts there....
